During the recent rain and wind crews standby on arcing wires.
A kitchen fire started at about 2:30 p.m. Monday inside Colonial Eatery, 5222 Ridge Road, in Parma. Doug Turner, Fire Department spokesman, said the fire started on a kitchen grill. Witnesses saw flames shooting through the roof but firefighters believe the flames came from the roof vent. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had been extinguished by dry chemicals automatically sprayed from a hood over the grill. Turner said there was no damage to the restaurant but it was temporarily closed as of today. It cannot reopen until the Cuyahoga County Board of Health approves, he said.
The Parma Fire Department responded to Woodbury Commons on Stumph Rd for a call of an apartment fire at approximately 12:30 today. The fire was reported from a maintenance person who was in the apartment working on an appliance. Captain Ed Sopko stated that a small fire broke out in the kitchen and burned the maintenance person who drove to the hospital to be treated for burns prior to our arrival. The fire was contained to the kitchen and smoke damage to the apartment and hallways. Nineteen firefighters from Parma quickly extinguished the fire. Brooklyn Fire also responded five firefighters but they were not needed. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
